BREAKING: Governor Wike Receives Heavy Blow As Appeal Court Decides His Fate

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has reportedly
delivered judgment on the Rivers state governorship
election held on April 11.

According to reports, the appeal court has upheld the
ruling of the tribunal. Therefore, Governor Nyesom Wike’s
election stands nullified.

Sahara Reporters reports that the seven issues raised by
Governor Wike have been resolved by the court against
him and in favour of Dakuku Peterside, the All
Progressives Congress’s governorship candidate.

In a 110-page ruling delivered by Justice M.B. Dongban-
Mensem the court ruled that Wike’s election did not
conform to the stipulations of the Electoral Act.

The court therefore has ordered a rerun in 90 days.
The tribunal headed by Justice Suleiman Ambrosa had in
a judgment on October 24, 2015, nullified Wike’s election
and ordered the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election.

Wike had challenged the verdict of the tribunal, as he
filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, asking the court to
set aside the judgment of the Rivers state governorship
election tribunal which voided his election.
